Massage Types and Rates

Investing in massage is investing in your health.

Massage is the art of using the hands to manipulate the muscles, tendons, and fascia for therapeutic purposes, often combining multiple modalities.

SWEDISH MASSAGE is the most familiar type of massage and the foundation for deep tissue, sports, myofascial, and Esalen massage. It relaxes the entire body using moderate to firm pressure for long gliding strokes, kneading, compression, and gentle stretching.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE starts with a more generalized massage, then uses deeper pressure and slower movements to target specific areas of tightness, pain, or strain (also called “trigger point” or “neuromuscular therapy”).

SPORTS MASSAGE helps athletes achieve optimal performance, prevent injuries, work well during training, and prepare for and recover from sporting events. Pre-event is usually a short, invigorating massage; post-event is usually a more extended massage, using slower, deeper strokes.

MYOFASCIAL TOUCH uses gentle, sustained pressure and slow, repeated strokes over a broad area to release the connective tissue surrounding and infusing every part of the body.

ESALEN STYLE MASSAGE is a more holistic approach, using nurturing touch for long, flowing, connecting strokes and gentle movements to tie together adjacent areas of the body while focusing on energy exchange and psychological well-being.
